While the A’One collection will not be released until 2025, Nike is beginning to tease a timeline of announcements leading up to its eventual launch.
A’ja Wilson’s long-awaited Nike signature collection has been in the works for over a year, and one of the first steps towards the eventual unveiling of the A’One shoe took place this week, as Wilson’s signature “A” logo was officially unveiled.
Featured across a T-shirt and matching necklace pendant donned by Wilson, the rounded logo draws inspiration from her longtime routine of creating a star within the “A” of her written signature. The logo blends together a slanted and offset “A” and a left-leaning star point that merges into her first initial.
“From my logo to the look of the shoe and the pieces throughout the collection, we’ve worked to make sure every detail is perfectly tuned to my game and style,” said Wilson.
Wilson often adds a four-pointed star emoji to her posts on X, bringing to life the elements of her personality and layering the storytelling into the logo.
“Aja Wilson’s star-shaped signature logo is inspired by her distinctive style, incredible performance, and unapologetic realness,” said Nike. “Coincidentally, she always drew a star in the ‘A’ of her signature, which is accentuated in her logo in an energetic and playful way. The base shape of the logo incorporates strong, bold lines, symbolizing the strength and support she brings to her team.”
While the eventual sneakers will be unveiled at a later date, Nike has already confirmed the upcoming launch of two Wilson T-shirts — both a signature logo tee and an additional shirt featuring the playful URL of her ongoing Nike microsite, OfCourseSheHasAShoe.com
After pressing go on the Wilson signature collection in early 2023, the two-year long design process has included a variety of checkpoints and design brainstorm sessions between Wilson and Nike’s team of designers working on her product. The two sides met in Los Angeles and at Nike’s Beaverton headquarters at different points of the last year, looking to lock in key decisions around the design starting points, key insights to inform the detailing, and of course, the signature logo.
Along the way, those sessions included sketch brainstorms, during which a variety of options drafting from her first initial were drawn up, until the star-led storytelling became the landing point for the look.
A variety of phrases and insights were keyed in on when creating the logo:
“90s style. Glitz + Glamour.”
“Round lines + Youthful energy (playful).”
“Sparkles on court + off court.”
All of that led to a logo that veers away from a more expected “AW22” integration and is centered around a more subtle and abstract execution zeroed in on the “A” and star.
The shoe franchise name will begin with the A’One before eventually extending to the A’Two, the A’Three, and so on. Since the “A” formatting became the icon of the signature collection, the brand leaned in on the first initial as the hero of the shoe logo rather than A’One as a whole.
While officially unveiled this week, Wilson has actually been wearing her signature logo as a diamond pendant since March, donning her necklace in a few off-court settings in recent months.
With the full A’One footwear and apparel collection releasing in 2025, the logo has become just one domino of the eventual lead-up towards the full launch looming next year.
